While affiliate banners, online stores, and Adsense certainly have their place, you might consider taking things one step further and creating a book in your niche, leveraging the Amazon marketplace to become a published author with work available on Kindle. Let’s look at seven reasons why more and more Internet Marketers are deciding to become published authors.


2. Instant Credibility

Authoring a book in your niche not only creates a product you can sell within itself but becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy by lending a great deal of credibility to your site. Even with the growing number of people out there with books written in their names, being an author still lends a great deal of authority. And this rubs off on your website, the products you sell, and all of your communications with your target market.

That means a book has far more value to your business than its ticket price.

3. Your Book Works For You

This is a great product you can sell to your existing audience, sure, but even while you’re putting in your work on your site, Amazon is working for you back at theirs. And trust me when I say that they are far better at selling books than you or I will ever be – what a great partner to have in your corner.

So your book can sell without you doing anything, and on top of that, it can draw readers back to your site to become part of your loyal audience.

Keep this in mind when you’re writing. How can you invite them to connect with you later, if even just by tossing in a pitch at the end of the book?

Now, don’t get me wrong, not every book that hits the Amazon shelves will be a moneymaker, but if you carefully select your market, put an honest effort into writing a valuable book, and then help Amazon get your book noticed in the beginning, they take it from there. And even when your book is a dud, you’ll often still get the occasional sale as long as you’ve done your research beforehand.

4. Market Exploration

Kindle provides a great way to explore the marketplace too – by revealing what sells and what people want to know. You can even start before you have your own book. Browse current listings on Amazon, paying special attention to books with high rankings or best-sellers.
And once your book launches, you’ll have a great idea of what’s really going on in the markets. If everyone ignores it, you’ve likely missed the mark, but if your book suddenly takes off – and it will if you’ve hit on a high-demand in the right way – you’ve gained an invaluable amount of data on what’s working.

You can now leverage that success to create more books, identify your unique angle in the market, or create additional products, like webinars and email courses.

5. Applicable to Any Niche

A book can be written in just about any niche out there. If that doesn’t apply to yours, it’s probably safe to say that you’ve picked a horrible niche for internet marketing. Because if people aren’t willing to read about the subject, they won’t spend time on your website or buy your other products either.

The important thing is, however, to identify what your market really wants out of a book. Don’t just give them a general niche book that touches on every subject possible. Think benefits. What can you teach them that they don’t know? Or, more importantly, what can you teach them that they want to know.

I see far too many internet marketers start a website because they think it’ll make money; meanwhile, they don’t know anything about the niche. How can you set yourself apart if you aren’t even considered an expert? How will you ever be taken seriously if you aren’t even familiar with basic industry terminology?

They say that writing a book is one of the easiest ways to become an expert on an unfamiliar topic. Dig your hands in and learn, and then teach what you’ve learned to others.

7. Pricing Flexibility

Amazon gives you a lot of wiggle room on what price you want to set your book at. Sure, certain prices have become standard. Many new authors simply sell their book for $0.99 to start out, hoping to make it an impulse buy and gain some reviews. $2.99 is another common price – usually for a book that’s seen some sales and is moving up in the ranks.

But you don’t have to stick at these price points. In the right niches, I’ve seen books go up to $200 – valuable information sells! What’s the most valuable information for your target market?

Of course, most books won’t have the liberty of charging that much, but also keep in mind that cheaper is not always better. Many authors find success by creating something more valuable, pitching it in the right way, and charging slightly more or much more than the industry standard.

8. Continuity

It’s easy to think that a Kindle book stands alone, but that’s far from the case. The most successful authors create continuity with buyers.

One way to do this is to write a series, and this is especially a good way to go if a product sells well. Whether in fiction or non-fiction, when people run into a writer that has something worthwhile to say, they usually want to hear more, and leveraging a success is an easy way to sell future books.

Think about different ways to play with price too. The first book in a series can be sold cheap or given away, and then the successive books in the series can be sold at a higher price point.

Cross-promotion is also very effective. Mention your other books at the end, with a link included, to capitalize on the reader’s interest. They’ve already read through your whole book! Now tell them where to get more.

While two or three books may not significantly affect a marketer’s bank account, a larger collection of well-linked books can create financial freedom for the author.
