There are a gazillion and one ways to make money online, agreed? As I was learning about online marketing, etc. I heard time and again that the only way to make money online is by having your own web site. When that suggestion was argued with the counter that anyone can make money doing GPT (get-paid-to) work (which involves programming, writing, web tech work, and plenty of other things), without a site, the statement then evolved to: you can’t make residual money online without a web site.

Well, I’m here to counter that statement. How do I know? Because I do it. Yes, I do have web sites, many of them, but I also have resdiual income streams that do not involve the web sites that I own.

So, what is residual income by definition?

Suprisingly, to me at least, many people define “residual income” differently. As far as I am concerned it is: income that is earned even when not trading time for money. Put differently, it is money being earned while doing things other than working, including sleeping or being a couch potato, or being sick. Put another way, it is not about a 9 to 5, and it not about any GPT stuff.

You put in some time doing some work, you set the work in motion, and if your calculated guesses were accurate, the work generates money for you, even though you stopped working on it. Now, to avoid delusion, 9 times out of 10 (or more) you will need to revisit, and “modernize” or revamp the previous work in some way to keep it afloat.

Picture a balloon that you smack into the air and it slowly floats down because of gravity. The “work” is the “smack.” And that balloon is earning you money while it’s in the air. But before it hits the ground, you might need to smack it back up or pay someone else to. But don’t smack it too hard or it may pop. Have you heard my “article spinning the wrong way” story? 🙁

Finally, the big secret to making residual income online without a web site

Ok, there is no real secret here. You might think after reading it, “oh geez, I could’ve told you that,” and that’s OK, but please also let others know they need to stop telling people that they cannot earn a residual income online without a web site, because it’s just not true.

That statement may stop someone in their tracks from having a “go” at this online stuff, and that’s not fair.

Is having a web site better? Arguably, yes, but that’s not the issue at hand.

How do you do it?

Simply by providing content to someone else’s web site, as outlined in our detailed guide on making money online from your passions. Not content where you get paid a one time fee, although that could be negotiated as well. Content that allows you to provide a call-to-action all your own, and the sky is the limit there.

Or even some AdSense. AdSense is residual income. You post something today and people visit it next year and click an ad and you get paid. That falls under “residual” if I have my say. And to keep that balloon afloat it might require a quick link from Ezine or something.

And if you would like to argue that you need a web site in order to get an AdSense account, I would like to ask you honestly: Do you really? 🙂

Now get out there and go make some money without a web site. The first online dollar is a great feeling. Hold onto that feeling, it’ll come in handy, especially if you believe in the law of attraction.
